FLOW, for love of water.. :)

Watching a video with that much information about water makes you think about how much we truly are wasting, and how precious water really is..

Pollution is a really big problem in the world. Pollution is everywhere and we still need to drink water. Last year 70,000 people died from bad water throughout the world. 1 out of 10 children will die before the age of 5 because of bad water.

Anything can be in your water. People flush everything down the toilet.. pills, cosmetics ect. , that goes into our rivers in to our water supply and we then drink it, thinking its safe and its damaging our bodies.

Water is the center of life, without water we will die.

Thoughts and Quotes on Fresh Water dvd

You, yes you, should probably stop taking water for granted. Maybe you don’t know it, or have never thought about it but water is so important to this world. Did you know that in the last 60 years the cryospheres, big glaciers, have melted 25-75 %? Well, they have. And this is most of our fresh water. 97 % of water in the world is salt which only leaves 3% fresh, and 70% of that 3% is frozen.

"Its melting away, its wasting away, I need it there’s no doubt about it."

"It’s all we’ve got, that’s all, that’s it."

"Every drop counts."

All of these quotes are from a dvd I recently watched. They all are saying that water is a precious thing and we have to stop mistreating it. The effects on not having a good water supply in the world would be that we wouldnt have good crops ect. , plants would die.. and if it got really serious, we would die.

The Importance of Ocean Currents

I learnt that the currents that circulate the world are important to the worlds weather. The Gulf Stream is a warm current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico and moves north towards Europe and since it is full of warm water the sea surface temperature is a warm then other areas at similar latitudes. I didn't know that places as far as Mexico to Europe could have such an effect on the seas temperature.

Also, I learnt that currents are important in navigation as well. Currents is essential to the reduction of shipping costs and fuel consumption. Today shipping and even sailing races often use currents to reduce the time at sea. Personaly, I didn't ever think about the navigation of ships..

Oceans and their currents

Ocean currents are the vertical and horizontal movement above water and below water. They usually move in a specific direction and aid significantly in the circulation of the Earth's moister, the weather and the waters pollution.

Ocean currents are found all over the world and they vary in size, importance and strength. Some of the big currents include the California and Humboldt Currents in the Pacific, the Gulf Stream and Labrador Current in the Atlantic, and the Indian Monsoon Current in the Indian Ocean.

There are two kinds of currents. The deep water current and the surface current. Surface currents are found in the upper 400 meters of the ocean while the deep water currents and found below 400 meters. Surface currents are mainly caused by wind because it creates friction as it moves over the water. The friction then moves the water and forces the water to move in a spiral pattern, called gyres. Gravity plays a role in the movement of the surface currents because the top of the ocean in uneven. Like surface currents, gravity plays a role in the creation of deep water currents. But deep water currents are mainly caused by density differences in the water.
